The first trailer for the upcoming TMNT movie has been released where Stephen will be portraying Casey Jones and you can view it below!
“Arrow” actor Stephen Amell who plays Casey Jones in the upcoming “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2” has revealed that the vigilante character will have a different origin story in the next movie. The sequel is scheduled to hit the big screen on June 2016.
The latest installment of the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” was noted to have altered a few things in the titular team and most of the characters’ origin stories. With a sequel coming up, it looks like the pattern will still continue. “Arrow” front man Stephen Amell who will play the role of the vigilante Casey Jones has revealed that even his character will undergo some changes as well.
In an interview with IGN at the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con, the 34-year-old actor discussed his part in the forthcoming movie. “It’s certainly not your father’s or your younger self’s Casey Jones, but that’s because we meet him at a very different time in his development,” Amell said. According to the actor, Jones in TMNT2 will no longer be the character the comic book fans have come to know and love. “When things go awry, [and] when he goes through the normal methods of what someone would do when they’re law-abiding citizen and he’s met with laughter and scorn, he decides to take things into his own hands,” he added.
It seems like Amell’s Casey Jones will not become a vigilante yet until he reaches adulthood. This may be one of the changes that the fans will see in the upcoming film. It was noted that in the comics, Jones began crime fighting when he was still a kid. According to Cinema Blend, he used to work in his dad’s auto shop until a certain gang murdered his father and burned the shop down. He started wearing a hockey mask, fighting bad guys with the sport’s stick and eventually became ally with the titular team.
Amell’s take on the character marks the second time the vigilante had its live-action version. Comic Book notes that “Chicago P.D.” actor Elias Koteas first portrayed the role in the first two live-action adaptation of TMNT. His character opposites April O’Neill who is now played by “Transformers” actress Megan Fox. Amell is reported to have filmed the sequel during his Arrow hiatus over the summer.
Directed by Dave Green (“Earth To Echo”), “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2” is scheduled to open in cinemas on June 3, 2016.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a movie that came out last year and took the theaters by storm. Just like most films these days, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is expected to be just one of a few in a franchise. In this remake, movie stars like Megan Fox, Johnny Knoxville and Will Arnett are cast to keep the entertainment flowing throughout the entire movie. The first movie was released August 8, 2014, and for the most part did not get many positive reviews.
Now that the movie is out of theaters, the total gross for it worldwide was $485 million, which brought it to be the number one highest grossing film for Nickelodeon movies. After getting such negative reviews, it was nominated for five Golden Raspberry Awards, including Worst Picture, Worst Prequel, Remake, Ripoff or Sequel and Megan Fox winning for worst supporting actress. Even though the movie has gotten fairly negative reviews a sequel is expected to be in theaters in the middle part of next year.
According to reports, the new movie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret of the Ooze, is going to be filming in New York City and Buffalo. Filming in those 2 cities, appears that the studio will bring in an estimated $70 million of spending in those 2 cities. There has been little said about the exact location that the film will be shooting at this point. Most movie studios do that so that fans are lined up along the streets to see the stars.
One of the stars that is expected to join the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles team, is Stephen Amell. If that name sounds familiar, you might recognize it from the popular television show on CW called Arrow. Amell has become very popular as the comic book character The Green Arrow in the television series and he is expected to save the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise by becoming Casey Jones. This week that news was reported, and fans immediately started to buzz on Facebook and on twitter, with hopes that the movie series will be better than the first one was.
There are a few things that could happen with the 2nd movie, and one of them is that it could be better than the first, but not really get attention from loyal fans. Some popular movies sites call this the “Tomb Raider Trap” because the 2nd movie was much better than the first, but it did not save the series. Does Stephen Amell think he can save the entire movie series, that is highly doubtful, but he will bring a certain action, feeling to the new movie that is packed with action already.
Last week a surprise convergence of geek fandom collided, when it was announced that Arrow’s Stephen Amell had agreed to play crime-fighter Casey Jones in the sequel to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Over the past three seasons, Amell has grown into his starring role on Arrow, both on screen and off, with the assistance of a vocal and supportive fanbase. Filming on the third season wraps up within two weeks and the actor will then shift his attention to his first major feature film role.
Amell will be taking on another iconic vigilante persona, when he dons the hockey mask as Casey Jones in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, which will mark his highest profile feature role so far. Both Jones and Arrow‘s Oliver Queen originated on the comic book page and possess unique fighting styles and personal codes for handling crime. Recently, at the Fan Expo in Vancouver Amell was asked about the two roles.
“Obviously the similarities are right there on the surface, but if the audition process and the script is any indication [Casey Jones] is going to be fundamentally different [from The Arrow]. As a matter of fact, it’s almost like the character of Casey Jones in this iteration of Ninja Turtles is almost a little bit more like the Oliver Queen that people know from the older comic books.”
One of the defining characteristics of Amell’s portrayal of Queen is his quiet, reserved, and calculating demeanor. It is probable that we will be getting a Jones who is more impulsive and brash than we have grown accustomed to seeing from Amell’s character on Arrow. The actor’s overall demeanor and excitement for the project is undoubtedly infectious. He explains that he decided to take the role based on the overall excitement of his wife and director Dave Green’s passion for the property. If Amell is to be trusted, TMNT fans may be in for a treat.
Stephen Amell, best known for playing Oliver Queen on The CW’s hit DC Comics series “Arrow,” appears to be taking a quick detour from Starling City to the Big Apple. According to Variety, Amell has just joined the cast of Paramount Pictures and Platninum Dunes’ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 where he’ll be playing a different masked vigilante, Casey Jones!
Created by Kevin Eastman, Jones first appeared in a 1985 “Raphael” miniseries, published by Mirage Studios. A hockey-mask wearing vigilante, Jones becomes an ally of the turtles and a love interest for April O’Neil.
Platinum Dunes’ Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Andrew Form will return to produce the upcoming sequel which features a script by returning screenwriters Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec. Megan Fox will reprise her role of April O’Neil along with William Fichtner as Eric Sacks. The original film also starred Will Arnett, Alan Ritchson, Jeremy Howard, Pete Ploszek, Noel Fisher, Danny Woodburn, Johnny Knoxville and Tony Shalhoub. It grossed more than $485 million at the worldwide box office.
Though unconfirmed, previous reports on the sequel have alluded to the inclusion of the likes of Bebop and Rocksteady or even the interdimensional Krang as potential villains.
Set to be directed by Earth to Echo‘s David Green, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 is set for release on June 3, 2016.
